I spied a spider.....

Hubby was in the garage and picked up a paper bag of heat beads and found a lot more than he bargained for. The biggest female redback spider either of us had ever seen!

Well these ladies are about as Australian as Vegemite, but not something that I really encounter that often, thankfully!

Talk about a close encounter of the arachnid kind!

  1. In spite of their relative irksomeness...they are kind of pretty. From afar, of course. We've recently done a huge de-spider program for the same reason that they were encroaching on everyday things: catch and release was working way too far in their favour!

  2. Eeewwww they are scary yet so slick looking! I have had to recently have my house fumigated (yes I know some are against it with kids due to chemicals) but I couldn't risk finding anymore of those things. The last straw was Hudsons sandpit. My god she is huge though thankfully the ones I found weren't so big, it was a numbers issue for me.

  3. LOL I agree, I am irrationally scared of spiders, but red backs in particular are actually very striking. Very creepy! But very striking...

  6. Yes redbacks are very poisonous and can be deadly to the elderly and young children. They have good antivenene for it these days as long as you get treated in time.
